While several manufacturers have named their proofing paper product "Contract Proofing Paper" more attention should be paid to the specific qualities of the paper offered rather than the word "Contract". The term Contract Proofing Paper applies to how it is used in the professional printing world rather than the visual characteristics that you can expect from the proof and consequently the finished product.
When the printer has composed the print layout and created a proof of how the finished product will appear, it is submitted to the client for approval. The proof is the printer's guarantee of what the final product it will be like. It is the obligation of the client to ensure that there are no typographical errors and that the layout is as desired. Upon the client's approval there is an agreement in place and as long as the finished printout matches the quality of the proof then the printer has completed his side of the service and the client has no recourse for dissatisfaction.
